Sino-British Universities Collaborate to Explore New Model for Joint Cultivation of Talent in Physics and Electronic Engineering Frontiers

Jiangsu University’s School of Physics and Electronic Engineering and the University of Sussex’s School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences Reach Preliminary Consensus on Collaborative Education.
Against the backdrop of deepening global educational cooperation, the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering at Jiangsu University and the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the University of Sussex recently held a transoceanic video conference. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on jointly advancing Sino-foreign cooperative education and reached a preliminary collaborative intent. This meeting marks a substantive step forward in the cultivation of international talent in frontier disciplines such as physics and electronic engineering between the two institutions.

Focus of the Talks: Building a Shared Curriculum System and Research Platform

It is reported that the discussions centered on core issues of collaborative education, including curriculum alignment, faculty exchanges, joint laboratory development, and student mobility. Michael Melgaard, representing the University of Sussex’s School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, highlighted its research strengths in fields such as quantum technology and nanoelectronics.

Meanwhile, Jiangsu University showcased its disciplinary features in areas like new semiconductor materials, optoelectronic information engineering, and artificial intelligence. Both sides agreed that joint cultivation models such as "2+2" or "3+1" could be implemented to achieve mutual credit recognition and joint degree conferral.

As the details of the talks are further refined, the collaboration between Jiangsu University and the University of Sussex is expected to become a new model for complementing Sino-British higher education resources. The two parties have scheduled their next meeting for January 2026, during which specific course structures and enrollment details may be announced, with the goal of finalizing the agreement within 2026.
