The meeting was attended by Liu Yanling, Deputy Director of the Talent Office, and all the leaders of the School of Physics and Electronics. Some teachers from Professor Li Quan's team, as well as some faculty and students from the School of Physics and Electronics, the School of Materials Science, and the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, also participated in the exchange. The meeting was chaired by Chen Yuanping, the dean of the School of Physics and Electronics.

On behalf of the School of Physics and Electronics, Pan Jinbiao, the secretary of the school's party committee, warmly welcomed Professor Li Quan and his team. He introduced the basic situation of the School of Physics and Electronics and the achievements made in recent years. Pan Jinbiao pointed out that Professor Li Quan's guidance and exchange will undoubtedly make important contributions to further strengthening the school's educational advantages, highlighting its characteristics, and promoting the development of teaching and research. Professor Li Quan fully affirmed the progress and achievements of the School of Physics and Electronics in recent years and expressed his intention to provide more support to the school in academic exchange, scientific research, and talent cultivation in the future.

During the discussion, Professor Li Quan introduced the establishment process of the Institute of Intelligent Materials at Southeast University. Through a vivid and humorous explanation, he interpreted the liquid crystal as the "fourth state of matter," and its responsive and tunable properties. He also introduced the team's cutting-edge explorations in dynamic photonics based on liquid crystals, including camouflage, laser manipulation, optoelectronic displays, structural color modulation, intelligent actuation, and smart energy saving applications, demonstrating the extensive prospects of liquid crystals beyond displays.

As a leading scientist in the field of liquid crystal academic research, Professor Li Quan shared his attitude and experience in research, and generously shared his accumulated experience in academic research, as well as unique insights in talent cultivation and engineering research. He provided valuable experiences and practical advice to the young teachers and graduate students present. Professor Li Quan particularly emphasized that young scholars should actively explore and research, dare to question, not blindly believe in authority, and conduct research with critical thinking. He encouraged them to focus on their research, work diligently, and not be restless in chasing hot topics, as achieving simplicity to the extreme is not simple. Finally, Professor Li Quan encouraged everyone to be grateful and useful to society and the collective.

Professor Li Quan is an academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a chief professor and chair professor at Southeast University, and the director and chief scientist of the Institute of Intelligent Materials at Southeast University. He is an internationally renowned scholar in the field of liquid crystal technology and intelligent materials, and the inventor of liquid crystal light displays and intelligent variable color glass. He is the honorary editor-in-chief of "Liquid Crystals and Displays" and the founding editor of "Responsive Materials" in Wiley, as well as an editor for "Light: Science & Applications" in Springer Nature. He has made outstanding contributions to research in the frontier areas of intelligent liquid crystal materials, intelligent nanomaterials, biomedical materials, biomimetic materials, and molecular structural soft materials, as well as talent cultivation both domestically and internationally. A large number of research results as corresponding author have been published in top academic journals such as Nature, Chem. Rev., Chem. Soc. Rev., Acc. Chem. Res., JACS, Angew. Chem., Adv. Mater., PNAS, Nat. Commun., and Sci. Adv. He has authored eight English monographs covering the most important scientific frontiers and applications in the field of intelligent materials and engineering, and has written over 40 chapters for English books. He was invited to redefine the entry for "liquid crystal" in the renowned Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia in the most authoritative manner, elucidating its definition and development. He has also been appointed as a visiting professor, chair professor, and honorary professor by several universities and is a highly cited scholar by Elsevier.
