Ⅰ.General introduction of the discipline and the research fields
Control Science and Engineering:
In 1995, the enrollment of control theory and control engineering for master' s degree started; In 2003, the enrollment of systematic engineering for doctorial degree started; In 2005, the enrollment of control theory and control engineering for doctorial degree started; In 2009, a disciplinary post-doctoral research station of control science and engineering was founded; In 2010, control science and engineering became a doctoral discipline; In 2011, control science and engineering became a key discipline in Jiangsu Province.

Ph.D. degree program in Control Science and Engineering focuses on:
1. Intelligent control of electric drive system
2. Nonlinear system theory and applications
3. Pattern recognition and intelligent detection technology
4. Production process intelligent automation and network control

Electrical Engineering:

In 2003, the enrollment of power electronics and power drives for doctorial degree started;
In 2012, a disciplinary post-doctoral research station of electrical engineering was founded;
In 2014, the new energy vehicles jointly declared by the discipline of electrical engineering and mechanical engineering were approved as the second phase discipline construction project in Jiangsu Province;Disciplines combine theory with application and enjoy a high reputation in the fields of domestic electrical engineering and other related fields in talent development, scientific research and social service.

Ph.D. degree program in Electrical Engineering focuses on:
1. Maglev drive technology and motor nonlinear control
2. New energy and new high efficiency motor theory and control
3. Modern AC speed control and power electronics technology
4. Power system and its automation
5. New energy grid connection and stable control

Ⅱ. Goal and objectives
The faculties of the school: School of Electrical and Information Engineering
In order to adapt to the rapid development of modern control science and engineering and electrical engineering and to cultivate advanced specialists with all-round moral, intellectual and physical development, PhD students need to achieve the following goals:
1. Have a correct outlook on life, values and world outlook, compliance with law, good moral character, rigorous style of study, strong dedication to career and dedication.
2.Master professional knowledge deeply the basic theory and system of the discipline wide solid, able to independently and creatively engaged in scientific research, teaching or working as professional and technical work, has the ability of large scientific research and technology development projects, with rigorous and realistic, the courage to innovation of scientific attitude and work style, good research ethics, fully understand the development direction of the academic field, made creative achievements in science or technology professional. Proficient in English, proficient in reading English materials, having certain English writing skills and international academic communication skills, and basically have Chinese communication skills.
3. Physical and mental health,after graduation, teaching, scientific research or technical innovation and management can be carried out in colleges, research institutes (institutes), enterprises and government departments.

In order to achieve the goal of this major, following objectives are to be accomplished by the time the candidate completes the 3-5 years courses.
1. Years of study
Full-time doctoral students generally study for a period of four years, in-service doctoral students generally study for a period of five years. If it is really necessary to apply for an extension, the longest time does not exceed six years. Indeed a good doctoral candidate can apply for early graduation. Advance years and higher than the normal graduation requirements are detailed in the "Jiangsu University graduate degree application for academic papers published during the academic requirements".
2. Training methods
Graduate training implement mentor responsibility system and is encouraged to implement the steering group responsible system under mentors, in order to guide the whole process of postgraduate training. Mentors (Steering group) are not only responsible for the formulation of graduate training programs, guiding scientific research, professional practice and dissertations and other works, but also for graduate ideological and moral, academic guidance, demonstration and supervision.
3. Overall thinking and innovative measures
① Training of control and electrical Engineering:According to the interdisciplinary talents training goal to reform the curriculum system and teaching content, in accordance with the "control and electrical Engineering" of enrollment of overseas students,
professional setting between wide caliber curriculum system complement each other, achieve mutual integration and penetration of the various disciplines of knowledge, breaking the traditional professional settings, full overseas students play the enthusiasm, initiative, provides more space for the professional choice, and realize the sharing and optimization of teaching resources, to meet the needs of cultivating high-quality talents, and internationalization.
② Teaching at home and abroad:Different countries and cultural backgrounds of the students gathered together, through cooperative discussion and learning style, to create a diversified learning environment through the exchange and interaction between inside and outside the classroom, overseas students can not only more intuitive, close to China culture, but also in learning to enhance cross-cultural communication and cooperation in the process of coordination, and arouse the enthusiasm of learning, broaden international horizons, to better adapt to the requirements of economic globalization.
③ The mechanism for mutual assistance:According to the actual situation of students, to carry out various forms of mutual assistance mechanism of multi-level and multi channels, and actively build on overseas students can effectively help the platform for them to provide the corresponding help in learning and life, such as the organization of China students and overseas students to form a gang of one pair of adjacent class the table between Chinese and foreign students "one to one", with the topic after-school guidance team coaching, construction of various forms of classroom teaching mode (such as PBL, Seminar, etc.).

Ⅲ. Study duration and the way to cultivate
The graduate students for management science and engineering major should finish the required degree courses at least 10 credits, non-degree courses at least 4 credits. The completion of these courses is usually within 1 to 2 years, while the additional 2 to 3 years is used to complete the dissertation research and thesis oral defense. Moreover, every student is also required to commit several presentations/lectures that are closely relevant to his/her research project, attend academic conferences/workshops for at least 15 times, which will be counted for 3 credits of this seminar course. In addition, the required course credits can be added beyond the total required course credits if that is necessary in terms of your knowledge background and the research project in which you will involve.

Ⅴ.Credits requirement for the practice
Academic activities and compulsory courses which PhD students must take part in take the credit system, credits are collectively referred to as practice credits. Practice credits 6 and course credits can’t be used universally. Postgraduate credit and practice credits need to meet the requirements before they can enter the dissertation submitted for trial reply.

1. Academic events (≥2 credits)
Doctoral students must attend the school organization "academic ethics seminars" and well-known domestic and foreign experts and scholars seminars, academic reports, graduate forums and other academic seminars. Participation in academic activities must form a complete academic report. During the academic period doctoral students should participate in more than 15 academic reports. Graduate student secretary is responsible for assessing academic activities. International conferences or national high-level academic conferences at which doctoral students read academic papers qualify academic activities .

2. Foreign literature reading (≥2 credits)
Doctoral students are required to read a certain amount of foreign language literatures, in order to develop the ability of researching academic literatures and self-acquire knowledge.

3. Seminar (1 credit / time)
Doctoral students in the academic period must conduct literature research exchanges, academic research progress reports and symposium reports within the scope of discipline.Doctoral students shall not be less than 2 times.

4. Practice session
Doctoral students are encouraged to assist the instructor in teaching master's degree students. In principle, each doctoral student need to teach 3-4 lessons, tutors take classes and are responsible for the assessment.

5. Doctoral students discipline comprehensive examination (≥2 credits)
Discipline comprehensive examination is a comprehensive assessment of PhD students before entering the dissertation stage, mainly to assess doctoral academic ethics, theoretical knowledge and academic research capabilities. Discipline comprehensive examination was carried out before the end of the second semester of doctoral studies.Each doctoral student must participate as scheduled in principle. Doctoral students who with irresistible reasons can’t participate are allowed to postpone up to six months (Need to apply for the record in advance). Discipline comprehensive examination was organized uniformly by the discipline (college). Assessment forms include comprehensive level of written examination and expert interview. College sets up comprehensive interview assessment team, composed of 5-6 experts in the subject or related disciplines and determines a person in charge of the interview. Assessment results are divided into excellent, qualified and suspended through, suspension of the proportion of is not less than 15% of the actual assessment. For the suspension of doctoral students, college based on specific circumstances advises students to re-evaluate or withdraw from school on an elective basis. Doctoral students during the study have a total of two comprehensive assessment opportunities. Students who failed to pass the examination in the first examination are allowed to have another selective examination (The time between two examinations shall not be less than 6 months), failed twice, according to withdrawal treatment.

Ⅵ. Advisory committee and supervisory
The Ph.D. students should be directed by a qualified major supervisor (Ph.D. graduate faculty), as well as a committee panel containing several qualified co-advisors/committee members. The Advisory Committee initially consists of at least 4 members of the Graduate Faculty, including the Major Advisor, who acts as the chair. At least 2 members must be from the School of the Management, with at least 1 of these being a full member of the Graduate Faculty. The remaining 2 members may be from School of Electrical and Information Engineering or another college, with 1 being a full member of the Graduate Faculty. If the student declares a minor, 1 committee member must be from the minor department. The committee should be established by the end of the second semester of the student’s graduate career.

For the overseas master training, the steering committee for training programs, training quality and daily management of students to guide. Tutors bear the responsibility of the first responsibility, responsible for the training and management of students.

Ⅶ. Dissertation
The level of the quality of doctoral thesis is a comprehensive measure of doctoral training quality and academic standards as an important symbol. Dissertation can be basic research, applied basic research, and Engineering application research, particularly to strengthen the study of the frontier disciplines and the field of cross interdisciplinary penetration, participate in a major issue to solve the forefront of high-tech development, put forward a new concept, new theories, new methods, new technologies；Participate in solving the major theoretical and engineering problems of national economic construction, and, as far as possible, participate in an important national research project which is undertaken by the supervisor or School of Management. The thesis should reflect that the author has grasped solid and wide basic theory as well as systemic expertise in this discipline. The dissertation should normally include two aspects of theoretical analysis and experimental research. It also should focus on the depth and breadth of content, highlighting the innovative and original insights or open up new areas. Dissertation should be, under the guidance of an instructor, completed by the doctoral students himself or herself to indicate that the author has the ability to undertake independent scientific research or to be independently responsible for the specialized technical work.

（1）Topics of the report
After enrollment, the Ph.D. student should know his research direction clearly, under the guidance of the instructor, and participate in scientific research. Usually after passing the qualification exam within the second school year, through the collection and read literature, the Ph.D. student should carry out research and experimental work, complete the report about topics of dissertation, and employ experts of the relevant disciplines and evaluate the report of the topics. After the passage of the deliberations of the topics of the report, the Ph.D. student prepares the implementation plan of thesis under the guidance of the instructor. Topics of reports and papers on the work plan are triplicate. One is saved by the supervisor, another by the student, and the third by College within 2 weeks after the passing. In the process of dissertation work, allowing for partial adjustment of the work plan, however, in principle, the titles are not allowed to change. If there are special reasons that support to change the title, candidate for Ph.D. degree should write an application himself or herself, and signing an opinion on the application by your major supervisor, recorded by the College Graduate Office, and timely redo report about topics of dissertation.
（2）Novelty
In order to improve the quality of the doctoral students in our school, ensure the innovation of doctoral thesis further strengthen the management of the Ph.D. degree theses, topics of Doctoral Dissertation implement check of Novelty. Under the guidance of the major supervisor, the doctoral candidate should check the Novelty on the topics in School science and technology project consulting department or the new center of other outcomes, retrieve topics of the research dynamics, horizontal, and research methods at home and abroad, and fill out and submit the novelty report.
（3）Thesis stage research report
The major supervisor of doctorial student should carry out regular checks on the Ph.D. dissertation work. In the medium-term of doctoral thesis work, Ph.D. student should stage research report. Assessment team (including the supervisor) are organized by more than five associate professors of the colleges or experts of equivalent professional and technical positions, specify the person in charge, and hold Public report meetings. Through the full description of the work of stage thesis by doctorial students, members of the assessment team question, and point out the problems and suggest improvements. The report meetings are needed to make a detailed record, and when the report meetings end, appraisal forms for postgraduate research work will be filled out, based on reviews and results given by the assessment team after discussion. Then the doctorial student hands it over to assessment team for signature. Test results are served as one of the reference materials for degree-granting.

（4）Workshop
Seminar would be held for doctoral students l ~ 2 times per semester, the total number should be at least six times; Symposiums are participated in by the supervisor, the member of the Advisory Committee (or some teacher and graduate students of related discipline) and the candidate; Symposiums are held in public, the candidate reviews literatures in his research field or report on his thesis in progress, and other members question and give guidance; After the symposium, doctoral student fills in the seminars profile table, together with the report of symposium, hands it over for auditing.
（5）Papers pre-defense
To improve the quality of the level of doctoral thesis, Ph.D. dissertation of the discipline should implement the pre-defense system. Doctoral dissertation pre-defense is an important part of effectively checking the doctoral thesis work, ensuring the quality of doctoral thesis.
（6）Paper Reviewers and respondents
Work of Application for the respondent of the doctoral thesis, reviewing and defense should be strictly in accordance with the requirements of the "Interim Implementation Measures of the Regulations Concerning Academic Degrees of the People's Republic of China”, as well as adopted by the Academic Degrees Committee of the degree-granting work rules and other related documents and regulations.

VIII.. OTHER ISSUES AND REQUIREMENTS
All graduate students are required to initiate their dissertation study project prior to the end of the second semester. The medium-term examination for dissertation project is generally scheduled in the fourth semester. Other following schedules relevant to your graduate study could be found from the Overseas Education College (OEC) at Jiangsu University. By the end of the first year, students are required to have a research proposal and program of study accepted by his/her Graduate Advisory Committee. A list of completed courses and those proposed to meet school requirements should also be prepared. A meeting of the Advisory Committee should be convened by the student to discuss his/her proposal and course work.

Every graduate student is required to publish at least 1 research papers in the relevant SSCI/SCI/EI journals prior to being eligible to apply a dissertation defense. The dissertation must demonstrate a mastery of research techniques, ability to perform original and independent research, and skill in formulating conclusions that enlarge upon or modify accepted ideas.
The above achievements are required to be with the first unit of Jiangsu University.
